Meira to drive for AGR

OK, who saw this coming?

Andretti Green Racing announced today that Brazilian Vitor Meira will join drivers Bryan Herta and Tony Kanaan behind the wheel of the #26 XM Satellite Radio Acura ARX-01a in this weekend's Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Meira is replacing Dario Franchitti, who was released yesterday from his Andretti Green Racing driver agreement.
This is just for the weekend as an ALMS replacement for Dario, but it is silly season...you never know. Now that Dario is gone, it's pretty much every man (or woman) for himself (or herself) in attempt to score that open AGR ride.

Ladies and gentleman, start your resumes. Vitor Meira will be starting from the pole position.

  1. I think Meira would do well at AGR. He might actually win a race. Plus he'd be Danica's teammate again.

  5. First of all, I'm glad that Vitor is getting this chance. He really deserves it, and I hope it does lead to the fourth car at AGR. Having said that, where's Marino Franchitti? He's been the ALMS co-driver with Brian Herta all year. Herta's been quoted about how well he likes Marino, and how well Marino's done this year. Apparently he's been tossed under the bus, too. Would be interesting to know whether Marino's disappearance happened before or after Infineon.

  6. From what I've read Marino was always part of the Franchitti package. My guess is he'll be Dario's catch can man next year.

  7. Marino had some serious ups and downs in the ALMS this year, enough I think he could have gotten ye olde sh*t can for legit reasons, or at least legit enough for AGR to cite and 80% of the racing press to buy off on.
