Decision '07

Wait - Sam Hornish Jr is leaving the IndyCar series? Who saw this coming?

Sam Hornish Jr. is leaving the IndyCar Series for a full-time ride in NASCAR, joining the mass exodus of open-wheel stars fleeing to America's most popular racing series.

The three-time IndyCar champion told The Associated Press he will drive the No. 77 Dodge next season for Penske Racing with Mobil 1 as the sponsor.

"I feel like this is something that is a new and unique challenge for me," Hornish said Thursday. "It may or may not be the right way to look at it, but I feel like I accomplished just about everything in Indy cars. I got to do more than I ever thought I would."

Looks like I need to finally find a headshot of Ryan Briscoe.

  1. Jeff,

I suggest either "Flyin' Ryan" or "Briscoe County Jr." as his My Name Is IRL nickname when Briscoe finally comes on board.

  2. I'll take those into consideration, but if someone says "Ryan Briscoe" to me a certain event at Chicagoland is what comes to mind.

    Two words: Briscoe Inferno

  3. You could always ask Nicole Manske for a Briscoe head shot.

  4. Jeff,

Then you'll want to make this Mr. Briscoe's icon.

  5. Brisalicous! Hornish is leaving? Dude, I've had inlaws who have left faster than Hornish. He's the giant tortoise of leaving.

  7. Well he took his sweet time making the it final, didn't he?

Eh, he'll be back. Sooner or later they all come back to Indianapolis (except Newman/Haas)

  8. Haas may be back, it's just that he'll be "busy" for the next 2 years.

  9. Notice how every photo like the inferno has Matsuura lurking...

  10. Johnny,

"Busy?" or in the immortal words of Ed Meese, "did i miss something?"

  11. Johnny,

It's Gene Haas, team owner from the N-word series who will be a guest of the Federal Gov't for the next 24 months. Carl Haas is the Haas in Newman\Haas\Lanigan\Anybody else want to go with a team that actually has paying sponsors? racing team in CC. Carl did have a team in the N-word series, but that was from 1994-97 as Kranefuss-Haas Racing, which was sold to Penske Racing South (Car 12).

So we have a Haas that didn't work with Newman going to jail, while the Haas that does work with Newman sold his N-Word team to an owner who has Newman as his driver.

    Crystal clear, huh? :^P

  12. Haha. Wow. No wonder we were confused on that one. Correction noted.
