Get out the vote

Out of respect for readers of all different political flavors, My Name Is IRL is generally an endorsement-free zone. There are enough politics in racing to discuss around here, and if you really must get into a “my party” vs “your party” conflict there is no shortage of other places to get your anger on. And might I offer my sincerest thanks to you all for your for your understanding in this matter.

However, on occasion an exception appears requiring an official endorsement and promotion, and now is such a time. Rarely does a candidate with such courage, such focus, such ability and such excitement appear in need of your vote as does this man, who I whole-heartedly back for the title he seeks.

EJ Viso for Autosport Rookie of the Year

We know Vitor Meira won’t be voting for him. Nor Graham Rahal. Nor possibly any other IndyCar regular, so your vote is of the utmost importance to young Ernesto. If your conscience does not object, please consider a quick trip over to the Autosport site cast a vote for EJ Viso as “Rookie of the Year”. As the saying goes, vote early and often.

I’m not EJ Viso, but I approve this message.

  1. Yikes, Jeff, that's going to be a tough row to hoe, what with Sebastian Vettel also in the field. There are a couple other strong guys in there, too, but only one of the nominees won a race in a high-level series. And it wasn't "Don't Call Me" Ernesto...

  2. Well, yeah, but come on: I'm a dyed-in-the-wool IRL partisan. You should expect nothing less of me.

  3. Hmmm. Yeah, I guess I should go back and re-read the URL of the site I'm reading... :)

  4. There were a couple of tough choices on that ballot.....I mean, Scott Speed and Sebastien Vettel were also listed, but in the end, I cast my ballot for E.J. Viso.

    BTW, great blog.

  6. Matthew, you actually considered voting for Scott Speed? Really??

Well I went for Vettel but it was a close run thing between he and Viso. I'm tempted to use another email addy to give Viso a vote...

  7. Yes, I actually considered voting for Scott Speed; I still can't believe he was able to adapt to racing stock cars after racing open-wheel cars for the past several years. If he does half as well next year in Sprint Cup as he did in his full ARCA campaign(including the couple of truck races he ran) this year, he could be a surprise on the grid next year. Then again, who knows what can happen in the course of a racing year.

On the other hand, had neither Speed or Viso been on the ballot, I likely would've voted for Vettel......

  8. Geez Jeff! After reading (& voting) Autosport's RotY '08 list... I respectfully suggest you change your name to this:

    My Name is KOOL-AID Drinker!!! :) :)

Sebastian Vettel not only WON a GP in his ROOKIE year he did it in driving for the former MINARDI team... He drove a Toro Rosso & McLarens, Ferraris, & most of the F1 field was running BEHIND him!!!

The fact that EJ is even on the list brings a bit of ironic humor to this vote & the one on Nov. 4... Does EJ wear glasses out of the cockpit? Is he really from Alaska?? :) :) BOTH should not be any legit ballot, based on their job performances!!!

  9. "Only true rookie Viso", but then Vettel is also a rookie, after racing almost half a 2007 F1 season? Speaking of jumping the bandwagon..

  10. Sorry, but Vettel is more deserving. I voted for him.
