We are just waiting to announce one new two-car team for next year. We think there are two or three others coming...and we’ve got a couple of very good league sponsors to announce. They’re signed, sealed, delivered.

“We’re waiting during our quiet period, and this is a little bit of a strategy. When we unfortunately have a bit of an off-season we want to really kind of sequence that information into the market to let people know that there are good things happening on a regular basis with the Indycar series.”
Terry Angstadt, President of the Commercial Division of the Indy Racing League, during an interview with IMS Radio’s Mike King. Angstadt says he expects a “minimum of 22 cars” for the opener in Homestead, although he also suggest 26 cars as the maximum allowable for regulars the series.

    Jeff,

Being a long time American Open Wheel racing fan I'll believe new teams it when I see them on the grid. That said, there's talk in that "other series" that CDW (one of that "other series'" few major level paying sponsors) is leaving the RuSport team and possibly the series. Add to that the confusion over a "vaporware" will there be\won't there be 2008 season schedule, it could be possible that the "2 to 3 potential" teams mentioned could be Champ Car teams. If that is indeed the case, game, set, match for the IRL. Either that or these are existing ALMS teams branching out to open wheel racing with some Honda bucks.

I don't mean to say these things are actually GOING to happen, especially after the "big" 17th race fizzles out.

I just thought it was interesting for him to say there is a new team in the book. You may be right about the CDW backing, but we can all guess until an announcment is made.

And don't think if an announcement isn't made I'm not going to send Mr Angstadt a reminder of his words...wait, was that a double-negative?

    Jeff,

Agreed, and no arguement on my part. Just some idle speculation from me. I've followed racing long enough to know that until the new track is built or the new team's cars actually show up to qualify, don't get too excited over announcements. The big rumor on other boards is CDW will take their bucks to either the IRL or ALMS. But that's just it, a rumor. The fact that they're leaving RuSport at the end of the season is almost confirmed on autoracingone.com.

And that seventeenth race? Well, at least the IRL didn't put it on their schedule and cancel it after the season started, like some other series I know. ;^)

Is it Kingdom racing with Jesus as the sponsor?
