I'll assume that Dixon knows better. He has a chance to become a legend in this series, based on his age and the pace he's at with winning races, including the 500.
If it should serve as a warning to anybody, its Thunda Dan… Also, if talented drivers have this many problems, just think what would happen to poor Danicker.
Two alternate theories, for those that view them as traitors. For Hornish, there was no guarantee unification would ever happen. He was a multi-time champion, and a 500 winner. The series was changing a little bit to include some new tracks that did not play as well to his strengths. Maybe he could have become a great road racer, but who knows? If Hornish had taken to stock car racing, and had won some races, when taken in conjunction with his IndyCar success, he would have been remember by all racing fans as one of the best of his generation. This may all still happen by the way. He IS still a rookie. Or, he comes back to IndyCar, and continues a great career.
For Franchitti, I really do get the sense that he was going to retire to sports car racing, and NASCAR just offered so much more money than ALMS. I think had Dario not gone to NASCAR, he still wouldn't be in IndyCar this year. The one that really bothers me is Allmendinger, because he's young, and has the exact skill set the current series requires. But at least he's getting his oval training out of the way now. :-)
I disagree derek, because I think Danica is a very talented driver. Dario and Sam are more talented overall race car drivers than most of the drivers in Napcar. Danica has had lots of success in high speed go karts, which require a lot of driver skill. I'm not saying that Napcar doesn't require skill, but they are more like bumper boats that bump and smash into each other, rather than IndyCars, which are driven open-wheeled at much higher speeds. You can't just bump around and smash into each other in IndyCars, otherwise you will end up airborn and in the fence.
Danica makes very few mistakes. On the other hand, she doesn't take a lot of risks either. If I were a car owner, I would love to have Danica as a driver. She is smart, conservative, and doesn't damage equipment. With the right team (AGR) and race strategy, she can win races. She also has the ability to drive wheel to wheel without backing off (just ask Marco who he would rather run side by side with, Ryan or Danica?) I've seen Marco and Danica run side by side on 1.5 mile tracks during practice for lap after lap. That takes skill, and balls.
Plain and simple...another of those infamous "racing incidents"...Marco ventures left, Hunter ventures right...BIG BOOM!
As far as Sam and Dario...well, thank God Tony, despite some bad showings as of late, still carries the banner of "former IRL driver" high...God knows Sam and Dario aren't making the transition play look too good! In fact it's somewhat embarassing to say "former IRL driver" in the same sentence as their names.
