"There is nothing that puts a smile on my face more than seeing a sea of fans decked out in Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. garb standing and cheering Scott Dixon, Danica Patrick and Helio Castroneves." - Jack Arute, showing why his chosen path in life involves being a pit reporter and not a marketing director.

Poor Jack, He tried so hard to be funny in this weeks report. I read the whole thing at Indycar.com. That quote was the icing on the cake. It went over about as well as the victory kiss he planted on Well Done this week. YUCK ! Maybe the FireHawk can shoot some extra t-shirts at those fans this weekend...

If anyone else agrees with Arute that it's a good thing, your support won't be necessary.

Jack tries to slap a bow on way too many things.

Fans DON'T cheer on Dixon. At the 500 they went nuts over four things. Vitor taking the lead, Marco taking the lead, Tony taking the lead, and Danica storming down pit lane. When Wheldon and Dixon traded the lead no one cared. Only the bloggers like Dixon.

you've got to admit Vitor taking the lead was pretty unlikely Vs. Wheldon or Dixon taking a lead, I actually thought Wheldon would win until I saw him kind of fade off..

Vitors pass was worthy of speedway wide cheering, and had any driver pulled off that pass it would remain worthy of it. It amused me that the woman three seats over in the dale jr. national guard hat didn't take notice.

what moronic person would wear nascrap junk to the Indy 500 ?

Jack perhaps didn't choose the moment or the words correctly, but I understand what he's saying. Fans that have been traditionally N-word fans only are now starting to come to the track to see IndyCars, and cheering for them! This is a step in the right direction. ...however ineloquently it was stated.

I'm traditionally a NASCAR fan and I've been going to Indy races for over four years now.

I'll also cop to wearing my NASCAR swag to the Indy races just because, unless you like Danica & Helio, you aren't going to find a very good selection of gear featuring other drivers.

I did manage to snag a Darren Manning #10 t-shirt a couple years back... only to have Chip boot him the next month. Therefore, I went back to wearing the current NASCAR swag.

Carrie, see that makes no sense.

WHY don't I wear WNBA stuff at a hockey game ??

How about soccer stuff at a football game ??

Or my swim shorts to church ?
