Delay of game

At some point in the last century a "DJ" was considered to be someone who talked in between records. Oh sure, they still have people that talk on the radio in between songs now - they're called "talent" and they have "shows" - but the music they play is no longer contained on those groovy (literally) vinyl discs.

Back then popular music consisted mostly a bunch of two- to three-minute songs, although every now and again one would come along that was much longer in length. No matter what they actually sounded like, cuts that were four or five minutes or morewere actually the DJ's favorites since they afforded them the time to leave the studio and do something else. You know, like eat a sandwich, take a potty break, or step out for breath of fresh tobacco.

For reference, please note the otherwise inexplicable popularity of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidda.

And so it is today that your humble host needs to step out of the MNII World Headquarters for a bit and grab a bite to eat. And by "a bite" I mean something at one of the many fine restaurants in New Orleans, Louisiana, because that's where I'll be for the weekend. In the interim I'll leave you with this amazing little time capsule I found that includes well over 6 minutes of IndyCar history. Enjoy!

And by "a bite" I mean something at one of the many fine restaurants in New Orleans, Louisiana, because that's where I'll be for the weekend.

After exposing them to Carb Day last year, your two eldest children should be perfectly prepared for Carnival\Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, Jeff.

In all seriousness, Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulet in N'awluns and in a city where you have to search to find a bad meal, may I offer some suggestions to try these restaurants that I can remember off the top of my head:

    Arnaud's
Deanie's Seafood (SPLIT the seafood platter with Mrs. My Name is IRL or we'll be holding a New Orleans wake for the former host of this site. Trust me, I know what I speak of here)
Mr. B's Bistro (Skip Brennan's, go here, trust me)
    Cafe Sbisa
A quick bowl of gumbo @ Napoleon House
A muffuletta and a bag of Zapp's Chips @ the Central Grocery

Mrs. mmack is going to be so jealous when she finds out you're off to the Crescent City, the Big Easy, the City that Care Forgot, etc. Especially after we dig out the d@#$%! driveway again.

    Bonne Chance!

Growing up for 19 years in N.O. I agree with mmack, you will have a hard time finding bad food; you can also add to your list Mother's (for good sandwiches) Pat O' Briens (great food and spirits and right in the heart of the city); of course Emeril's (if you have the money)

BUT most importantly, you can't go to N.O. without visiting the open 24 hours a day 365 days a year original Cafe Du Monde for some Beignets.

That video.. what a great find! And great to hear the optimism of what the coming year would bring with Nigel in Indycar and Michael in F1. It's nice to hear some optimism after the last few months.

Anyone else think Emmo looks like A.L.F.? He looked older then than he does now! Everyone else looks a lot younger..

This clip makes me want to locate the '93 season and watch it because I haven't actually seen it.
I know a lot of people over here got into Indycars because Mansell went over there. His leaving lost a few and so did the split but those who had become die-hards remained. Unfortunately I wasn't one of them until much later..

BTW it was interesting to hear that voice as a young reporter, nowadays Ray Stubbs is a big-name presenter for BBC Sport.

Here's what was had that was worth havin' - and just about everything was.

Didn't visit Arnaud's but did have the exact same Turtle Soup at the sister shop "Remoulade". Probably the best soup I've ever had in my life. Really.

Emeril's NOLA was very good but not great, although the Hoison Stuffed Wings were amazing. Think turning a chicken wing into a pot sticker.

A muffuletta and a bag of Zapp's Chips (Tobasco Flavor!) at the Central Grocery was indeed awesome.

Jazz Brunch at Mr B's was delicious. Steak, eggs, incredible gumbo, and dear lord the bread pudding.

I read on Trip Advisor and it's true: the best hamburger IN THE WORLD is at a tiny bar called Yo Mama's. I think they put crack in the meat.

But best of all was the only place I ate ate twice: Stanley's. Either the Banana's Foster or Breaux Bridge breakfasts will set you free. You must go - it's not expensive.

One last thing: Favorite place was Laffite's Blacksmith Shop, a 240-year-old bar. No lights but lots of candles - and plasma TVs on the wall. And it's haunted. And the Hurricaines are quite strong and made from actual juice. In short, it's perfect.

As for the video - I just think it's hilarious watching Mario talk about Nigel, since he later called him the worst teammate he ever had.
