As enjoyable as IndyCar racing is there's always room for improvement. Not that anyone is asking me, but here are just a few ideas off the top of my head:

  • Finding a fiscally viable way to return to historic ovals in Phoenix and Michigan
  • Having pit assignments based on something more dynamic than points standings
  • Adopting names like soccer teams, such as "Arsenal", "Juventus" or "Penske 1812"
  • Ripping "the knob" off to deter passing-free festivals of fuel conservation
I know these are all simply nutty ideas that will never be implemented, but...hold the phone! What did Honda Performance Development Technical Division manager Roger Griffiths (and yes, that's EXACTLY what it says on his driver's license) just say?

"Right now, we are in discussion with the IZOD IndyCar Series to remove the fuel-mixture switch from the car completely. This would make the driver responsible for controlling the amount of fuel consumed with his or her right foot."
Excuse me while I repeatedly pound the "OMG!" key on my laptop.

OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!

Would you be a bigger fan of Ganassi City or Ganassi United? Of course, there's always the esteemed Réal 3G...hope they can make the grid this year!

There are two things that should come out of a fuel tank -- a tube to the filler and a tube to the engine -- and THAT'S IT...and maybe whatever they use for a fuel gauge...and THAT IS IT! No wires or pneumatic valves controlling anything, damnit!

Pit assignment could always be based on qualifying postition, I think thats the most fair way to go.

Michigan and Phoenix's problem is they are ISC tracks, but we really need them back, before say a Baltimore Street Course. The good news is potentially Atlanta and Fontana will both lose a NASCAR Sprint Cup date, so they may be willing to reinvite Indycar.

I can only hope the fuel knob dies! At least then, fuel races involve a little talent, although I'm still not a fan of them.

Not sure about the team names, but losing the knob and changing the pit assignments are great ideas.

And best wishes to all inhabitants of the My Name is Irl trailer park in 2010.

Why not using qualifying to choose pit positions? And how about getting Milwaukee back?

Pit assignments out of a hat makes the most sense except Indy 500 by qualifying.

I'm not so concerned with Phoenix and MIS who don't want a race but turning down New Hampshire who was waiting with sanctioning feee in hand (reportedly because they are talks that maybe there are rumors about thoughts that could be happening for a race in Gillette Stadium's parking lot)
