As mentioned in the ESPN broadcast, Tony Kanaan told members of the media that he had broken his arm when crashing his car during the morning warmup session yesterday. From Chris Estrada at FOXSports.com:

"The pain, how can I describe (it)?" Kanaan asked. "It's a wrist that has already 14 screws on it. It's been operated twice. It's a really sharp pain on the outside bone. So, basically every time I turn to the right, which we don't have. Yeah, not too many on this side. It gives me like somebody's really putting a needle inside my wrist.”
14 screws? Holy metal detectors! However, the intrepid Curt Cavin reports that regardless of the internal hardware Nariz makes a better Race Director than physician.

Kanaan said he suffered a hairline fracture of his left wrist when his car slammed into the barrier in the sixth turn. Dr. Kevin Scheid said X-rays were negative.

"He must have misunderstood us," Scheid said. "We didn't see anything."
I’m no doctor either but I occasionally play..wait, there’s no way to finish that sentence without it being a double entendre. Anyhow, my guess is that the real doc said something like “we don’t see anything on the X-ray but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be some kind of small stress fracture” and Kanaan ran with that. And that doesn’t mean it still didn’t hurt like a mother scratcher driving all 60 laps around The Glen.

I'd say Kanaan had a awesome race for having to race in the tough conditions for 60 odd laps with a broken/sprained/hurt(whatever it was) wrist. It shows how fit Kanaan is as a driver to be able to not just run the race at Watkins Glen, but bring home a TOP 5 for AGR. Sure the caution fiascos at the end of the race helped him, but regardless this race at the Glen showed me how fit and mentally prepared Kanaan is as a driver to not become stressed, and be able to bring the car home.

    Either way...ouch.

I have a hard time driving home at 70 mph with a migraine, even.
