Recently the racing legend recently did his part to help save the US automaker.

Mario Andretti visited Bowling Green and the Corvette Assembly Plant today, to pick up his specially-ordered Corvette ZR1.

"Well, I've had many Corvettes," Andretti said.

"The last one was a Z06 and so, with the ZR1, I couldn't pass it up. It's clearly the best Corvette ever. It stacks up to the best supercars in the world. It's the best bang for the buck as well."

Andretti says he just had to have this Corvette, and he's excited to try out his early Christmas present.

It's great to see Mario still has money saved up and still enjoys a fine American ride, but Mario, come on, you don't have to prove anything to anyone anymore. Get yourself a nice Cadillac or Hummer instead and roll around in spacious comfort, because we've seen that getting behind the wheel of a super-beast like that 'Vette can only lead to bad things.

Like say this.

Enjoy the ZR1 but please, for goodness sakes, go easy on the gas and be sure to leave that flipping upside-down stuff to your grandson, 'kay?

(Thanks to longtime reader Jennifer for the alert.)

I wonder if he got Employee Pricing?

Yes. We are very proud of our Corvette plant here in Bowling Green. Very very proud. The blond guy from CHiPS could visit the Corvette plant and someone would write a newspaper article about it.

Just a SLIGHT difference between an out of work actor & North America's greatest driver of the 20th century.

    Ya think???????????????????????????

Firestone & Bosch were the big sponsors at the Detroit GP. Yes, GM bought track signage... but GM was nt keeping the Belle Isle race afloat.

GM is still funding the GT2 Corvettes in the ALMS... better than Audi & Porsche who dropped out. JMO

Dude, reread what I wrote. The television news AND the newspaper did a story about Mario. I said *someone* would write a newspaper article about it.

Dean, no one said anything about AJ Foyt visiting the Corvette plant.

Dale... A.J. finished #2 behind Mario in many of the "Greatest" lists many of the mags & media ran.

Jennifer: I read what you said... You're proud of your Corvette plant & the workers...

...you also made it sound like the local paper would cover a bake sale at the plant too. The "blond guy from CHiPS" is one step up from the bake sale (when compared to Mario).

"The blond guy from CHiPS could visit the Corvette plant and someone would write a newspaper article about it..... "

Your quote doesn't mention Mario or the local media... I'm glad Mario received proper media attention... He DESERVES it a helluva lot more than an out of work actor (who I'm sure is a nice guy).

If you were joking... sorry. I missed it. Perhaps you should work on your comedic writing style.

Not slamming you... I was just giving Mario & the ZR1 the proper respect they have BOTH earned.

    Andretti #1 and Foyt #2?
