Franchitti to Penske?

Two things to note before you read this: First off Mr Judd is the top dog in the points standings (you knew that), and second Dario always signs one-year contracts - meaning he's a free agent.

Those two items together make him the obvious subject of this article, although it seems to have more than "rumor" status. Take it away Curt Cavin:

Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti has emerged as a possible replacement for Sam Hornish Jr. at Penske Racing if Hornish moves to NASCAR next season.

Penske officials are mum on the subject, insisting a decision on Hornish has yet to be made. But Franchitti did little at Nashville Superspeedway to squelch the speculation. (MORE from IndyStar)

FWIW, your buddy Robin Miller said pretty much the same thing as Cavin yesterday on The Speed Report.

Calling Robin Miller my "buddy" is one of the few things that could ever get you banished from this site. (Didn't he say Dario would be driving Champ Car this year? Ahem.)

Seriously though, Sam has to make up his mind and leave first before anything like this would happen.

Anthony Fedele needs to pay Robin Miller a visit and make him an offer he can't refuse.

(I can't get the imagery out of my head--There was an all-day "Godfather" marathon on cable yesterday. I'm out of chips again.)

Wow. My friend Jennifer (Dog.Yarn.Knit.) made this call two weeks ago, and I wrote it off as impossible. Seems an odd fit...maybe the Ashley factor.

I see TCGR fielding a 3rd car when Kanaan's contract is up. His friendship to Wheldon will probably come into play for that. I'm guessing AGR is not a fun place to be with Danica & Marco getting all the media attention while giving underwhelming performances (Although Marco is doing much better as of late) Dario is probably going to be the first casulty of that media circus.
