From the Houston Chronicle:
Kingdom Racing to join IndyCar Series — It was announced Thursday that Kingdom Racing would begin operations with the goal of racing in the 2008 IndyCar Series season. Kingdom Racing is owned by Houston businessman George Del Canto and a team of racing, financial and sports marketing professionals.Umm, OK. It beats having Hugo Chavez as a backer, but do you think Gene Simmons will be helping them find sponsors? Could be awkward.
The team's premier focus will be to win on the racetrack, create value for its sponsors and change people's lives through on-track ministry.
"The team's vision is to deliver the word of God through motor sports," Del Canto said. "To reach this goal, we must field a championship-caliber race team, as only front-runners earn credibility, and deliver the value to the sponsors' investment."
You can read more about them at the Kingdom Racing web site, which by having an internet presence already puts them ahead of other would-be teams. Judging from the graphics it would seem they would like for their cars to look a lot like Chip Ganassi's. They probably want them to go just as fast too.
Checked out their website. Hey, it's Scott Dixon driving a "K.R. car" wearing his old helmet. What are the odds they'll hire driver Kosuke "Sofa King" Matsuura?
Geez! What next? An Islamic team?
I hope there is a rule against the use of explosives....
Gives a new meaning to "Saving It".
Well, I'm excited.
I can't help but think that money spent on a racing team could be spent more beneficially in other areas. There's plenty of hungry people out there. Just sayin'.
American Mutt,
In that case, why have the IRL at all? Why not shut down the whole thing and cancel the Indy 500 and just give all the money to the poor?

USAC?
*ducks*
Penske, TCGR, AGR, Vision, RLR, D&R, and Panther don't have a stated mission of spreading the word of god. Feel free to express yourself as you see fit. I'm just saying there are beeter ways from a christian standpoint to spend that kind of cash than a race car team. Just sayin'. Sorry if I offended--can't tell, but it sounded defensive. To be perfectly honest it smacks of a tax right off to me.
Isn't there a Playboy sponsored racing team gearing up for 2008?
If so, this could be interesting. =)
Playboy already races in in the Rolex Grand Sham Prototypes series. And if you were up late watching the Knoxville Nationals a few weeks ago, you may have been surprised to see a Penthouse Sprint Car in the B Main.
