Welcome to Belle Isle, home to the IRL's inaugural Detroit Indy Grand Prix. The money has been spent, the course has been modified, the tickets have been purchased, and now it's time for Roger Penske to sit back as one of his drivers sets the victory switch to the "on" position.
Oh, this one is too easy to call. It's so obvious that all of the competition has been taken off the board. There is only one driver and then there is "the field" this week. Sure Dario Franchitti won here about 100 years ago, and Scott Dixon is always in contention whenever he turns right (or left for that matter), and Tony Kanaan has been very strong lately.
But come on. This week it's all about Helio.
Why? The "Spiderman" fence climbing first occurred here at Belle Isle, during one of his two victories back in the old days of CART. Plus Helio has done most of the testing during the redesign of this course. Now add that Helio just claimed his record breaking SEVENTH pole of the season. So as long as the Penske parts hold up, this weekend is his for the taking.
So no tedious Cheat Sheet this week. Just a stupendous picture courtesy of Maria Grady/LAT and a wish of "good luck" to the rest of the field. Watch to see if Ryan Hunter-Reay and Marco Andretti can turn a lap without smacking into each other. Watch Mr Judd and Iceman battle each other for championship points. But most of all, watch Helio claim home court advantage.
