Open Thread: Kansas 2008

Your humble host has a long-scheduled obligation this weekend that will be taking me out of town to New York City. I'm taping an interview segment for "The Late Show"...or not.

As a consequence of this sojourn I will be in transit during the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 this weekend, which means missing my first race since goodness knows when. Thankfully, the DVR has been invented and is primed and ready for Sunday night viewing.

My Name Is IRL has never had an "open thread" type post, so go ahead and make the most of it while I'm off looking for a good show and a place to eat.

    Mr. Your Name Is IRL

Have a good time. I hope when you fly over Indianapolis the pilot pronounces your name right over the pa system.

If Gordon Ramsay doesn't say You're using the wrong fork, donkey!, you got ripped off.

    Jeff,

Have a good time out with the New Yawkers! And as they say in the City That Never Sleeps,

"I got yer IRL race recap RIGHT HERE, PAL!" :^P

You could always try ESPNZone in Times Square, lol...

So Scott Speed won at Kansas this week. Just in the wrong kind of car.

This isn't Indy-related, at least not currently, but I thought you might be interested.

Dario just got literally t-boned in the Nationwide race. He's out, and walking under his own power, but he was limping, and had to be helped into the ambulance. Looked like he was mostly OK, but damn. That was a scary hit. I really am glad that IndyCar has never seriously considered racing at 'dega. As fun as it can be, they'd be doing 250.

Dario has a broken ankle....no 'Dega race for him on Sunday.......out for a couple weeks at least....

I found an interesting tidbit on speedtv.com. There is a pole: "What is your favorite racing series?" There aren't very many votes yet, but IndyCar is numero uno.

IRONY = Dario gets injured in N-word racing but he doesn't get hurt last year.

We need a nickname for Jaime Camera !!!!

  13. Anonymous // April 27, 2008 7:53 AM

    Anon,

I put in for IROC Camara, but nobody seconded it.

    tabernerus and Bash,

I wonder what Starchild Judd is thinking now after telling her man that the IRL is too dangerous to race in? I'll wager a fiver that any replacement driver The Chipster puts in (looks like Stremme, the driver Dario replaced!) will eclipse Dario's efforts to date.

Hey Dario: karma sure is a b*tch, isn't it?

Proof of how far we have to go: The race is about to be delayed (or we'll miss the start) due to women's golf.

And now the golf is in a playoff. Wonderful. Hope you all have ESPN360.

I just ordered an Ed Carpenter unstructured twill cap. Now if we can keep the Briscoe Inferno dancing elsewhere...

How 'bout if Panther Racing DOESN'T blame someone else next time they make a mistake?

    What a bunch of crybabies.

  18. Anonymous // April 27, 2008 3:55 PM

Danica on EJ Viso: "I don't even know who that is."

    Quote of the year?

  19. Anonymous // April 27, 2008 4:33 PM

Panther Racing & dreyer & Reibbold are just plain awful !

  20. John in Speedway // April 27, 2008 5:47 PM

Carpenter's post race interview (on the radio) was even better than Danica's rant. He called him "That idiot Viso" and I think he dropped the F-bomb as well. I couldn't rewind the radio like I can my TiVo though. My other favorite part was the Luczo Dragon guy punching Marty in the head. That was great.

  21. Allen Wedge // April 27, 2008 7:53 PM

hey if I got screwed cause someone else was in my pit I'd drop some F-bombs too...hehe

  22. John in Speedway // April 27, 2008 8:13 PM

I love it when they drop f-bombs. Danica dropped one after her victory when she was on the phone with her sister. Her exact words were "F-in finally right?" That was cool.

  23. Fred Hurley // April 28, 2008 2:04 PM

I think the difference, fine-wise, is that Danica was on her cellphone, and a camera caught her swearing, while Carpenter was being interviewed. That said, yeah, I' have dropped one, too. Viso showed some speed, and I'm sure he'll learn as he gains oval experience, but it was not his finest race. Then again, Marty Roth ran over a dude, so ...

Thanks guys for all of the contributions. Seriously, half of you could start your own blogs...the half of you that don't already have them, that is.

I had a great time in New York and I highly endorse dropping crazy mad jack for Ramsay's food. Even though the service is rather dry the food was FUN-TASTIC! I had no idea beets could taste so awesome.
