Less than exciting news for fans of Mario Dominguez and PCM, courtesy of an IndyCar press release.

Pacific Coast Motorsports to miss Iowa race: Pacific Coast Motorsports will not participate in the Iowa Corn Indy 250 presented by Pioneer at Iowa Speedway.

"I've decided to keep the team at our headquarters in California to re-evaluate and strengthen our program," said team owner Tyler Tadevic. "Pacific Coast Motorsports and the Mexico City Tourism Board are committed to the IndyCar Series. PCM has a contract with Mexico City through 2009, and this has always been our building year. Along with our partners, we have determined we are going to take some time to re-evaluate our resources and determine how to strengthen our 2008 program and better prepare for a competitive 2009 season."

The team debuted with driver Mario Dominguez at Indianapolis, gaining valuable practice time in May although it failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500. The team competed at Milwaukee and Texas, finishing 26th and 21st, respectively.
As a business buzzword "re-evaluate" has a number of connotations, nearly all of which being negative for current members of the team. Perhaps the PCM "partners" decided to "re-evaluate" their funding, although as you can see there is nothing mentioned above that explicitly states that as the case.

Maybe the fact that they were almost embarrassingly slow almost everywhere has something to do with it. They are a better team than that. But re-evaluate rarely means everything is rosy.

Yeah, this isn't the PCM that ran in Champ Car last year. One of the former managers bought the team from Tom Figge when he and Alex decided to run sports cars.

I feel like part of this is he team not swimming in cash, and wanting to catch its breath for a few weeks. The team as it stands now is about a month old, and has been flat out from Indy qualifying through Texas, and last year, Iowa was a crash-filled race. Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor. Also, while the IRL was poised to accommodate 27 cars at Iowa and Richmond, it was going to be tight, so I doubt they're super-annoyed that PCM is taking a break. If they come back for the Glen, and then make all the races from then on, that's a far better sign for their future than scrambling to make Iowa, crashing because they're still learning the car, and then missing Richmond while they rebuild.

Re-evaluate = woah.... we stink. I do applaud pulling out their car. I don't think any Iowa citizens are going to VISIT MEXICO CITY anyways. Just not their bag.
