High fashion in low places

Fully entrenched into the current IndyCar season, some of us have missed one of the more unusual stories elsewhere in the world of auto racing. No, I'm not talking about Max Mosely's Big Adventure, but rather the recent stylings of one Scott Speed.

When we last left High Fashion Scotty he was being cast aside from Formula One and carried into a future career in tin top racing. Speed was lost in a world where drivers not only carried their own helmets but also buckled themselves into their race cars. It’s true. Despite these disorienting methods, Speed has raced rather well in the ARCA/RE MAX series by making the Top 6 in all but one race and even winning at the event at Kansas Speedway.

Simultaneously, Speed has also been banging wheels in the Craftsman Truck Series, managing 3 Top 10s in 6 races. Last weekend at the Monster Mile at Dover he drove to his first victory in an N-Word truck, but that’s not the real story. No friends, it’s that according to the Orlando Sentinel he did so with “Haute Couture”.

Something tells me that pedicures are going to become very popular with NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers.

Former Formula One driver Scott Speed had his toenails painted blue before Friday night's Craftsman Truck Series race at Dover International Speedway. That must have been the secret that carried him to Victory Lane, giving him his first NASCAR triumph.

"You’ve obviously never experienced the joy of having someone take care of your feet," Speed said, laughing. "My feet were very, very soft, very beautiful for my standards."
You may now wipe off the beverage you just spit onto your monitor. While you’re doing that, here again just for giggles is High Fashion Scotty performing a lovely little diddy about breakfast.

(Thanks to Marc at Full Throttle for the find.)

Believe it or not, despite (or maybe because of) his eccentricities, Scott is well-liked by his CTS & ARCA compatriots.

    I adore him, myself. He's a trip.

Yeah, the rule is one eccentric is just an eccentric. More than one, and a bunch of guys from North Carolina start gettin' nervous.

Scott Speed should be in an IndyCar, dammit. So should Allmendinger. So should Hornish.

On the plus side, Speed and Allmendiner are learning how to race on ovals BEFORE joining the IndyCar Series. :-)

Thanks for disabusing me of the notion that Scott Speed should be in the IRL. That cereal video was one of the queerest things I've ever seen.

Thanks for the link Jeff, no really, thanks!

Now excuse me while I take stock of what that video did for my frontal lobe, it can't be good.
