20 February 2009 - LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing (NHLR) announced today that Dutch driver Robert Doornbos, 27, will join the team for the 2009 IndyCar Series (ICS) season.Congratulations, Bobby! Robin Miller has already put $20 down on you to be 2009 Bombardier Rookie of the Year.

Are we likely to have another rookie this year?
Oh wait, Barret and Conway. Ok.
Well we already have Mike Conway, Stanton Barrett and Rafael Matos also competing for the title. Doornbos makes four and, who knows, maybe Dale Coyne throws someone like a Phillipe brother out there as well.
They may technically be rookies, but I wouldn't look for Matos and Doornbos to be too "rookie-like" in their performances at all. Matos has cleaned clocks in every series he runs in. To be inflammatory, Doornbos was very competitive in ChampCar which immediately places him in the category of competitive in ICS...the footnote to that being his lack of oval experience.
